Eagle™ was designed to provide freedom. Gear range equals freedom. Mountain bikes were originally designed to provide freedom as well — freedom to ride in any terrain any where in the world. The range of an Eagle™ drivetrain allows all of the superiority of a 1x drivetrain, without compromising gear range. Given all of the significant improvements of Eagle™ Technology, and the very minimal weight and price compared to 11-speed, there is no reason not to have the additional range. Remember, just because it has more range, does not necessarily mean LOWER gears. By going up one chainring size, you can have both a lower low and a higher high gear. That means that if you live in a relatively flat area, your gear range can accommodate a trip to the mountains. By going up two sizes, you maintain a similar low gear, and get a much higher high gear for high-speed riding. Using the same ring size you have today provides you a much lower low gear, but also does not compromise your high gear because of our 10-tooth cog.
