I completed the firmware update and it bricked my controller. It will not respond to anything, no light comes on. I changed the battery as well.

    Hello Jordan,

I am sorry to hear that you're having issues with your controller since attempting a firmware update. While specific issues can arise during this process, we have not encountered a problem that has "Bricked" a controller.

I have created a support ticket to discuss the condition of your controller in more detail. Expect a response from our team shortly!

Yeah, I had the same issue.  My eagle axs controller bricked after I upgraded to 2.8.1 from 2.3.  Thankfully I found the firmware roll-back procedures.  So Im up and running again on 2.3.  You may want to pull 2.8.1 from your download though, something isnt right with it

    Hey James,

Thanks for your comment! The rollback procedure relates to moving AXS derailleurs and seatposts from 2.17.0 (the firmware we pulled from our server) back to the firmware version available for the specific component. It does not relate to any AXS controller as they are all on different firmware.

The only firmware available for Eagle AXS controllers is 2.3.0. Version 2.8.1 pertains only to Eagle AXS RDs, so I'm a little confused about how this was presented to you.

As for what appears to have happened, it seems the AXS App permitted you to 'reload' v2.3.0 on your controller, and during the update, something timed out, and it did not complete. When firmware is written to a component, it is writing over the existing version. If the update is interrupted or fails to close correctly, it leaves the component without complete firmware, rendering it 'unresponsive' until you reconnect to the device and 'recover' it by completely uploading the available FW version.

I will do some testing with AXS MTB controllers this afternoon to see if anything appears to be amiss, but your issue may be a 'one-off' and not a symptom of a more significant issue.

Hello, also updated firmware of my AXS Controller and I can no longer wake it up and even changed the battery. Please help

I was able to roll back the firmware update using these instructions: https://support.sram.com/hc/en-us/articles/1260805928510-AXS-firmware-notice-2-17-0-. Ignore the fact that the FAQ is for an earlier SW version.

Thank you James but it's my paddle shifter controller that won't wake up unless rolling back my RD firmware will fix this?

Remove the battery... install battery while holding the AXS button on the shifter. Light should start blinking amber. Then re-install firmware.

I was able to connect and clicked on the notice icon on my AXS Controller (shifter) and it says firmware is up to date with no indication to rollback or reinstall firmware. I click on the "firmware up to date" and it's blank for the for the "Firmware Version" and release notes. Screenshots https://photos.app.goo.gl/kcnbwshn4BQtrgWg9

Okay I was able to recovered to 2.3 on my controller. I had to click on the the AXS search icon and indicated firmware recovery on my AXS Controller. It seems like it went back to 2.3 and says my firmware is now up to date

    Hello Everyone,

Thanks for the assist on Daniel's issue from James and Jordan! Daniel, thank you so much for the screenshot. It verifies that the app is allowing the upload of the incorrect component firmware onto a controller.

    ***UPDATED INSTRUCTIONS***

If your component has become unresponsive following a firmware update, follow the instructions below to recover it.

    Steps to recover

    1) Place the component into firmware update mode.

      1. Remove the controller or derailleur battery.
      2. Press and hold down the component's AXS button while installing the battery.
      3. If successfully placed into Firmware Update mode, the components led will begin flashing Amber/Red. The component will exit Firmware Update mode after 30 seconds.

NOTICE: If the component has no LED response to the instruction above, fully charge or replace the component's battery and attempt the process again. For controllers that use a CR2032, we suggest one from a reputable brand, such asl; Energizer, Sony, Panasonic, Duracell, etc., are all suitable brands.

    2) Open the AXS App and select [Search]. Do NOT select the controller from the bike profile list when using an Android device. The firmware recovery process is only possible through the Search menu.

    3) Select the component from the Search Menu.

    4) Select [New Firmware Available] and then [Install] to begin the firmware update.

    5) The update will begin, and the progress bar will advance.

NOTICE: If the progress bar does not appear or advance within 15 seconds, force quit the AXS App and attempt the process again. If after doing this, the progress bar does not appear or advance within 15 seconds, delete and reinstall the AXS App, or try the process using a different mobile device.

    6) The controller will return to normal function when the firmware upload is complete.

Tech Tip | If the controller’s LED reacts to an AXS button press but will not actuate the derailleur or seatpost, complete the AXS System Pairing process.

For step 4 I did not have luck clicking on the red exclamation icon. I was successful by clicking on the AXS search icon (magnifying glass) which indicated my controller needed the firmware recovery.

This just happened to my controllers as well.  App allowed 2.19.5 to be loaded and installed on my rear derailleur X01 controller and my reverb controller.  no response what so ever on either after update in app said success.

will attempt removing CR2032 batt from each controller to roll back.  fingers crossed...

Battery ended up being drained on both controllers, replaced battery on each and clicked the magnify glass and each rolled back to 2.3.0 now both are working...

    Hello Eric,

Thanks for the comment. I am happy to hear that you were able to recover both of your controllers! We believe to have the issue resolved with the latest AXS App release for Android, v2.0.3.

My App informs me that my AXS Force FD requires a firmware update. I have followed the instructions above and it installs 2.3.3 upgrade. However upon completion of the upgrade the FD remains unresponsive and the App tells me that the firmware upgrade is still required. Have tried 3/4 times but it won’t recognise the upgrade.

    Hello Lain,

I am sorry to hear that you're having issues with completing a firmware update. Firmware version 2.3.3 is an old version, and the app should be trying to load 2.7.3.

It may be that your phone is not communicating with our firmware server correctly. In an attempt to resolve this, please delete and reinstall the AXS App and attempt the update again.

I will also create a support ticket from your comment if my suggestion does not resolve the issue.

    Hallo,

    LG David

I am trying to recover a Red RD Max. I can get it into firmware update mode (amber light flashing) and in the app when I search the update appears for a moment and disappears and fails to download. It then reads “No public update” I have the same issue on IOS and Android. Any suggestions? I am using the latest version of iOS and Android.

Having the same issue with the FD.  FD won't work and app continues to tell me it requires an update to function. Have updated 5 times successfully to 2.7.3 but FD will not work and continues to believe it needs an update when the update states it is success every time.

2.7.4 is installed on RD and the firmware states this is up to date

    Hello William,

Thanks for reaching out! I am sorry to hear that you're having issues. A component that repeatedly requests and installs firmware typically has a memory issue that cannot be solved without replacing the component.

If you have not already, please attempt to recover the device (through completing a firmware update) using a different mobile device. If the firmware update 'loop' is due to your mobile device unsuccessfully closing the firmware installation session, using a different mobile device will resolve the issue and return the component to normal function.

If attempting the firmware recovery process with a different mobile device does not correct the issue, please visit your local dealer or contact your original point of purchase to request a warranty evaluation of the derailleur. SRAM warrants its products for two years from the original purchase date to the original purchaser. The complete SRAM Warranty Policy can be found here

Hi, I just got a new axs xo1 upgrade kit, the rd firmware was successfully updated to 2.19.5 and the controller says, firmware is up-to-date 2.3.0. But the problem is that, the RD doesn't move up when I press the up shifter. It only move up when i manually press the rd button twice then it move down when pressing the both down and up shift. Any help, please?
