You can likely upgrade your current 8, 9, 10, or 11-speed equipped bicycle, provided you have the following:
XDR driver body: Replacement XDR driver bodies are available from most wheel manufacturers to retrofit 11-speed road rear hubs. If you currently have an 8, 9, or 10-speed drivetrain, upgrading your wheelset or rear hub to one that incorporates compatibility with an XDR driver body will allow you to install an eTap AXS groupset to your bike. To verify if your hub is XDR driver compatible, contact your hub manufacturer to verify if they produce a compatible XDR driver for your specific hub. The SRAM version XDR drivers are compatible with SRAM hubs only. For more information on driver bodies, check out our SRAM XD and XDR Driver Body Explained page.
Flat-mount calipers: All Road eTap AXS calipers are offered with flat-mount disc brake calipers only. If your frame is not equipped for flat-mount disc brakes, Road eTap AXS calipers are incompatible.
We no longer have post-mount options for our eTap AXS road systems, so if your current frame has this standard, you will need to consider a caliper from the Level line that is compatible with your SRAM RED, Force, Rival, and APEX eTap AXS hydraulic brake levers. Check out our SRAM MTB & Road Hydraulic Disc Brake and Caliper Compatibility Chart for more information.
If you have mechanical rim-brakes, we no longer have compatible eTap AXS shifters in production to allow you to upgrade your current frame. While no longer available, a mechanical rim brake option was available in both SRAM RED and Force eTap AXS.
DUB bottom bracket: All AXS systems require a DUB bottom bracket and compatible crankset. To find your frame's correct bottom bracket, refer to our DUB: Choose a Road Bottom Bracket page.
