There are several reasons for brake noise. From the rotors' point of view, here is a list of things to be aware of.
- Mount the rotor in a star pattern when assembling a six-bolt rotor and use a torque wrench to prevent warping the rotor.
- Never cool down a hot rotor using water, for example. That also can cause warping.
- Don`t touch the brake track as this can leave grease on it.
- Use the proper torque for centerlock rings.
- Dont use different pad compounds on the same rotor.
- Use only Isopropyl Alcohol for cleaning the rotor as brake cleaners may contain additives that can affect the brake performance.
- Don´t overheat the rotors while riding ( if that happens, choose a bigger diameter rotor or a four-piston caliper ).
- Check the rotor for its straightness regularly. If it is not straight anymore, you can use a rotor truing fork or ask your local dealer for truing it.
- Perform the bed in procedure every time you change to new rotors.
- Take the wheel out and use a bleed block in the caliper when bleeding the brakes, so that DOT fluid doesn't drip onto the pads or rotor.
