The shift-brake controls of your new SRAM RED XPLR AXS will work with prior generations. It is also compatible with all AXS controls, all road Flattop chains, and all road wide 1x crank arms. However, because the 13-speed Full Mount rear derailleur is optimized to work with the RED XPLR XG-1391 cassette, those parts of the drivetrain are not backwards compatible.
